Dear Friends, well-wishers, Free software enthusiasts and developers ,
Free Software Foundation Tamil Nadu (FSFTN) is glad to announce that
it will be hosting the 2nd National Conference of Free Software Movement
of India (FSMI) that is to be held at Chennai during Dec 2016 and Jan
The inaugural conference of FSMI was held in Bangalore in 2010. Since
then, the movement has surged forward, intervening in a significant way
in policy issues and spreading free software by taking up technology
dissipation in a mass movement mode along with multifarious interactions
in public spaces, aligning with social causes. A large number of
volunteers from Industry, Academia, Research bodies, Developers,
Communities, Social Movements and policy makers have contributed to
these collective efforts.
The conference is going to be a landmark moment in the history of the
Free Software movement of India with experts from India and abroad to
debate and discuss on the contemporary issues and challenges faced by
the changes coming up in Technology and its impact on society. Thematic
events will be scheduled in the conference.
The conference will be attended by thousands and will be a space
where a cross-section of enthusiasts, evangelists, hacktivists, policy
makers, IT professionals and students exchange their experiences and
learn from each other through a series of workshops, panel discussions,
cultural performances and documentary screenings. The conference will
look at strengthening the relationships between stakeholders towards the
formation of a vibrant and free society based on the pillars of free
software, free knowledge, free science and free society.
